About Jana

Jana received her Bachelors in Nursing from Baylor University in 2005 and worked as a NICU nurse until she completed her Masters in Nursing from UT Arlington in 2011. In that time as an RN, Jana worked on the transport team, lead committees, wrote practice protocols, participated in research and published several articles in nursing and medical journals. She then spent 10 years as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in one of the busiest delivery hospitals in the US where she wrote multiple policies and protocols and participated in quality improvement projects. Jana has nearly two decades of experience caring for the sickest of the sick infants and coordinating their complex care after discharge.

In 2021, Jana left the hospital to focus on providing home visits in the community. She is also a lactation consultant, postpartum doula, new parent educator, car seat technician, midwifery birth assistant and CPR instructor. Jana runs a baby concierge called Bishop Babies and has served over 700 families by providing classes and services that new families need. Bishop Babies was born from her own struggles in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Jana vowed to provide a complete offering of classes and services to support other women in their journeys. Her goal is to equip and empower families to be successful in parenting and stand in the gap where our villages once were. Jana also provides a New Parent Hotline to answer all the pressing questions new parents have in the early days after birth. Through this hotline and virtual lactation and wellness consultations, Jana has helped families across the country. It is entirely possible that Jana could teach your prenatal classes, be present at your baby’s birth, provide lactation services and postpartum care and then be your baby’s provider for sick and well visits. This kind of continuity of care is unheard of anywhere else!

Jana is also passionate about nontoxic living, especially the elimination of toxins from the home during pregnancy, breastfeeding and infancy to optimize maternal/infant health. She has a special interest in hormone disruption and the affects on pregnancy, breastfeeding and postpartum period.

Jana is a mother of three and has been married to restaurateur Shane Spillers for 18 years. She lives in Dallas, and frequently provides wellness support to the neighborhood through elderberry syrup, herbs, oils and homeopathy. Her front porch is a grand central station of people picking up things they need to stay well. Jana uses plant based medicine for her own family and enjoys helping others do the same.
